Although the TDI provides some common functionality throughout the rack, it is not part of the critical monitoring path and has no impact on the correct and proper operation of the entire monitoring system used for automatic mechanical protection. One TDI or RIM is required per 3500 rack, and they always occupy slot 1 (next to the power supply)

The TDI is located in a slot adjacent to the power supply of the 3500 rack. It can be interfaced with M-Series displays (3500/40M, 3500/42M, etc.) to continuously collect steady-state and transient dynamic (waveform) data and pass this data to the host software over an Ethernet link. Static data capture capability is standard on the TDI, however, the use of the optional SYSTE Channel Enable Disk will allow the TDI to capture dynamic and high-resolution transient data. the TDI integrates communications processor functionality within the 3500 rack.
